Maps For Sleep

was the bicoastal recording project of producer Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields, Future Bible Heroes, The Bones of JR Jones) and artist Jon DeRosa (Aarktica, Pale Horse and Rider.). The project started in 2008 when Derosa had temporarily relocated to Los Angeles where Newman had moved a year earlier and was residing in the same Snow White Cottage in Los Feliz that the late Elliott Smith had lived in. From the energies within, a mix of hypnotic beats and lush sonic landscapes developed and Maps for Sleep was born. Since then the two have collaborated on an array of projects under this moniker, including work with director Lucy Walker, an array of TV shows and recently a viral web spot for Sperry Topsiders. The two now both reside in LA and continue to work on projects together.
